Pilz is a partner in Rossini – a project intended to optimise and disseminate HRC applications. It was initiated by Horizon 2020, the EU funding program for research and innovation. A total of 13 companies from 7 countries are supporting the plan to reconcile theory and practice in cooperation between human and machine. The name Rossini comes from “RObot enhanced SenSing, INtelligence and actuation to Improve job quality in manufacturing”.

The project aims to develop a disruptive, inherently safe hardware-software platform for the design and deployment of human-robot collaboration (HRC) in manufacturing. By combining innovative sensor, drive and control technologies and integrating them into an open development environment, the ROSSINI platform will deliver a set of tools which will enable the dissemination of HRC applications. These technologies have been developed by market leaders in their field. Human operators and robots merge to become members of the same team, increasing job quality, production flexibility and productivity. http://www.pilz.com

Pilz has supported the ROSSINI project right from the start as technical manager. Pilz also looks after the fields of robotic manipulators and sensor development.
What was the motivation for getting involved in Rossini? “There is genuine added value for Pilz and its customers”, says Mr Castro and Mr Schweiker, the two Rossini project managers at Pilz. “It is important for us as a company to make a contribution to the current research and development in HRC and so support progress, particularly in the field of safety. What’s more, it’s important for us as developers to maintain a lively, cross-sector exchange among experts and world market leaders.”
